Maryland SC wins America Cup 2008

After 3 days of action packed table soccer, the first ever FISTF North American Continental Cup aka America Cup 2008 is in the books. It was a fantastic weekend with many players taking their shot at the hardware and some very close and exciting matches. In the end Maryland SC walked away as the big winners claiming the coveted America Cup for Clubs, U-19 and Veterans titles. The winners on the weekend were Zach Walker (Open), Daniel Cranston (U-19), Paul Eyes (Veterans) and Maryland SC (Teams.) Many thanks to all the players who travelled long and far and congratulations to the winners. Hope you all can make it next year to America Cup 2009! The team final was the highlight of the weekend with one of the mostintense, well played team matches ever on American soil. The youngstersfrom Maryland SC came up big getting some clutch wins in their matches(Cranston 3-0 over Conturso and Sheridan 2-0 over Taylor) which proved tobe the difference in the match and hand the title and coveted America Cupto the club from Maryland. In the Open, Zach Walker managed to top the extremely tough field with veryclose matches in the quarter finals and semi finals against Tillman andConturso. 3 past ASA National Champions in Walker, Deinhart and Wilcox allwere in attendance, showing how much depth there was in the playingfield. Also notable was the great play of U19 US Champion Patrick Sheridanwho at the age of only 17, managed to make the final in the Open categoryover the tough field.
