Serbian Double: Djokovic, Ivanovic win Indian Wells

Novak Djokovic has won the Pacific Life Open after ending Mardy Fish's fairytale run at Indian Wells. The world number three beat Fish 6-2 5-7 6-3 to avoid the same fate that befell Roger Federer in the semi-final. Djokovic followed up his own semi-final rout of Rafael Nadal by halting a magnificent week by Fish, who defeated three top-ten opponents, including the world number one. Fish did not succumb easily, rallying from a 4-2 deficit in the second set by breaking the Serb twice to force a decisive third set. Djokovic, though, broke the unseeded American in the second game for a 2-0 lead en route to his second title of the year after his maiden grand slam at the Australian Open. It was the second straight appearance in the final for Djokovic, who lost to Nadal a year ago. A delighted Djokovic admitted "it has been a dream start" to the season.
He added: "This is a big run. I'm getting everything together and I believe in myself much more than I used to last year. "When you start winning the major events, you have proved to yourself in the first place and to everybody else that you have quality to be there at the top.
Djokovic's win made it a Serbian double after top seed Ana Ivanovic beat Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4 6-3 to take the women's title. Ivanovic, who reached the final in Melbourne, dominated Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4, 6-3. The victories were an important demonstration of their growing ability to handle expectations. With her win, the No. 2-ranked Ivanovic has now placed herself alongside Australian Open champ Maria Sharapova as one of the leading contenders to challenge Justine Henin for the No. 1 ranking this season.
"That's my goal, definitely," said Ivanovic. "I don't want to get overexcited about it. But I'm really enjoying my time and I'm playing some good tennis and I worked hard for it."
