UEFA Cup Semifinals Completed

Dramatic Toni late show stuns Getafe (Getafe 3-3 Bayern)

Getafe played all but six minutes of the game with 10 men but looked to be heading for a famous victory, only for Bayern to twice come back from the dead -- first to force the game into extra time and then to snatch a last-gasp equaliser to level the match 3-3. Midfielder Cosmin Contra put Getafe ahead with a virtuoso solo goal just before half-time, but just as the home fans were celebrating a memorable upset Bayern midfielder Franck Ribery equalised in the 88th minute.
Getafe went for broke at the start of extra time and goals from midfielder Francisco Casquero and substitute Braulio put them 3-1 up within three minutes.
But striker Luca Toni pulled a goal back for Bayern late on in the second period and struck again at the death to end Getafe's dreams and secure his side a semi-final showdown against Zenit St Petersburg

Darcheville and Whittaker secured Rangers a 2-0 victory against S. Lisbon

Second-half goals from Jean-Claude Darcheville and Steven Whittaker secured Rangers a 2-0 victory against Sporting Lisbon that sent them into the last four of the UEFA Cup after a spirited defensive performance at the Jose Alvelade Stadium. Forced to defend for large portions of the match, Rangers managed to keep Sporting at bay for the duration of the first half despite Liedson rattling the woodwork with a header. A well-taken breakaway goal from Darcheville on the hour mark gave the visitors the away goal they craved, and after holding firm for the remaining thirty minutes substitute Whittaker sealed a 2-0 aggregate victory with a superb solo goal in injury time.

Adrian Mutu struck twice for Fiorentina, securing the progress to semifinals

Fiorentina progressed 3-1 on aggregate with Mutu, who scored in the first leg, putting the Serie A side ahead by firing in a free-kick from 25 yards seven minutes before halftime.
Mutu settled the match early in the second half when he netted a rebound after goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes failed to control a shot from Giampaolo Pazzini.
"This was a great achievement but Mutu and Pazzini made the difference tonight," Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli said.

Zenit progress despite defeat

Zenit St Petersburg progressed to the UEFA Cup semi-finals despite a 1-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of their quarter-final tie. Dmitri Bulykin made the most of a rare start to score the only goal of the game but it was nowhere near enough to overturn Zenit's 4-1 advantage from the first leg. Leverkusen knew they had a mountain to climb after last week's demolition and began the game brightly.
